LEGEND OF THE SHARKS

There lived, once upon a time, in Olangwan, Zambales, a very rich man. His name was Kablay.
Kablay owned several fishing boats. He rented these boats to fishermen at a very high rate. In spite of his wealth, this man Kablay was selfish and greedy.
Every morning he went to the shores and collected the fees from the fishermen. He also lent money at a very high interest. So the poor fishermen remained poor, while Kablay became very, very rich.
One day famine came to the land. The people in the entire Zambales province were dying from hunger. Everyone was starving. In Olangwan, the people came to Kablay because they knew he had stored more food. However, Kablay told them that he had no food to spare.
One evening an old man knocked on Kablay's door. He begged for food. But Kablay, upon seeing the tattered clothes of the man, shouted:
"My dogs are also hungry. But I do not have a single morsel to feed them. If you are desperate, go and jump into the sea."
Trembling with cold, the old man pleaded. However, Kablay laughed in his face. Before the beggar left, he told Kablay:
Your wealth, Kablay, has made you a heartless man. But you'll never live long to enjoy it. Someday, you'll regret your selfishness."
Then the old man left.
That night a storm came. The wind was strong and rain fell without stopping. Soon water covered the land. Kablay's house was swept by the flood far out into the sea.
The proud man tried to swim back to the shore. However, he felt his arms and feet grow numb. He moved his arms-these only moved weakly. He struggled, his feet became a sturdy tail, and his skin became hard and slimy. His head took another shape and his teeth became razor-edge sharp. Kablay was turned to a shark.
The old man was Neguno, the sagacious ruler of the sea. He came to the land to punish the proudly Kablay.
